DofE NEWS

In this issue of DofE News, the last before the Christmas break, take a look at our new Resources tab on DofE.org where you’ll find lots of DofE information and guidance; hear about eDofE developments; and help your participants to draw on the skills and attributes they’re gaining, like these young people volunteering overseas, for their university personal statements.

#iwillWeek 2017 - Building Communities

Last week was #iwillWeek 2017 and the DofE played a major part in helping to highlight how youth social action is helping build communities in all parts of the UK.

The week showcased the cross-sector, cross-party support that the #iwill movement has generated since launching four years ago.

Website developments

The latest additions to the DofE’s website (DofE.org) are the Opportunity Finder, the LifeZone information area and the DofE Skills for Work area.

The Opportunity Finder is a brilliant resource which is updated daily, and brings you access to Leader training courses plus a wealth of opportunities for participants to complete sections of their programmes.

If you follow old links, you will now land on a 'Resources' page showing you how to find the items you may be looking for. Please make sure to update your links and bookmarks with the new pages' locations.

If you spot any broken links or have any comments to help us further develop the site, please email website@DofE.org.

Planning ahead

With Halloween and Bonfire night behind us, the countdown to Christmas is underway. Take a look at our top five ways to keep your participants, parents and support team focused on the DofE this November and not on the upcoming break.

Whilst these largely refer to a school environment, many will be applicable to all types of Licensed Organisations.

Five top tips

eDofE help

We have updated the way that we manage and record queries that are received by the eDofE Support Desk via the helpline and/or eDofE@DofE.org.

We have also been developing the number of resources available and continue to produce useful articles which can be found online using the purple support icon in the bottom righthand corner of eDofE or by navigating directly to help.eDofE.org.

Help is at hand

Your questions answered

Do you sometimes get stuck for an answer when a participant asks you a tricky question about activities they can do for their programme? Is pony driving, for example, a skill or physical activity? (It's a skill, by the way.)

The answers to scores of questions can be found on our website and cover a wide range of topics, from insurance and activities to Assessors and eDofE.

Finish the year as you mean to go on

Don’t wait until the New Year - there’s still time to achieve something amazing in 2017. Set yourself a DofE challenge, push yourself out of your comfort zone and raise money so more young people can transform their lives through the DofE. We’ve seen many amazing challenges already this year - thank you to everyone who’s taken part.

Take the Challenge

Register your interest for the DofE Adventure 2018

The first DofE Adventure was a success! 98% of participants said they’d recommend it to a friend.

Join using 2018 for the epic hiking and camping weekend for adults: register your interest now to make sure you hear about our Early Bird offers. See our video for an idea of what went on last time.

Be adventurous

Getting personal

Now's the ideal time to remind participants and Award holders to include their DofE experiences in their personal statement, if applying to university. The attributes they picked up doing their DofE helps a university admissions officer get a great idea of the applicant, especially if the experiences are related to the course.

Introduce them to the LifeZone, for lots of great advice.
